Peru Saizprez (Peru)

Born in 1971 in Lima. One of the poets with the greatest potential of his generation – but it’s also true that he seems unwilling to belong to any. He has a special way of escaping both his generation and anything that might try to label him. No regularity, no collaborations, no awards, no complicity. Nothing that might make it easier to classify him. No one knows who Peru Saizprez is. It seems that, to know him, you have to see him. His live performances are his poetry. His poems make noise. These are poems marked by the improbable, showing reality from a deeply personal point of view—at times realistic, at others cynical—that skillfully play with contrast, dark moods, and emotions common to almost everyone but rarely captured by contemporary poets with such simplicity and effectiveness. In his voice, lines like “police cars exploding in the hearts of the wicked” or “a man kills a man with a man” sound like choruses. Don’t miss him—you won’t find him again.
